All You Need to Know to Commission a Painting
1.
STEP 01
I suggest measuring the space you might hang the artwork. Decide what medium you want: oil, pastel or pencil. Then see the sizes and prices below to determine what you want to order.
I work from photos. If you are local I can take photos to work from, or you can email a photo. Please keep in mind that the painting is only as good as the photo. Detail and lighting make a huge difference. If you send me a photo that I don't think will work I will let you know. I do NOT suggest "piecing together" photos of different people into one painting. The lighting never looks real.
2.
STEP 02
Email me at jennifer.richter.art@gmail.com and send me the photo you would like me to work from. Also, let me know the size and medium you would like. I only take 2 commissions a month, so I will email you back and let you know when I have an opening and how you can pay for the commission. I require half payment before I will begin the painting or drawing.
3.
STEP 03
Once I begin, I will email you photos of the progress in case there are changes you want to make. Once the painting is finished I will email a photo. I will ship the artwork when I have received final payment. Pastel and Pencil work ships immediately after payment. Oil paintings take 8 weeks to ship; 2 weeks for me to paint, 4-5 weeks for the oil paint to dry, and one week to varnish and let the varnish dry.
All artwork comes without a frame. But the sizes I work in are standard frame sizes.

WHY ARE OIL PAINTINGS SO EXPENSIVE?
Oil paintings offer deep, beautiful, and lasting color. No other paint medium has the lasting power and pureness in hue that oil painting does. Because oil paints are made with so much pigment they are much more expensive to make. That quality is reflected in the cost of the paint which adds expense to the painting itself. It also takes quite a few mediums, solvants and expensive brushes to work in oil. Oil paintings are usually done in layers, and the more layers or glazing the artist uses the longer it takes the artist. And finally, oil painting requires technique and skills that a lot of artists don't want to bother with, or don't take the time and practice it takes to learn. So you are also paying for the artists years of experience that goes into each painting.
I hope you will find joy in whichever medium you choose! I can't wait to work with you!
